Not having an official Valentine does not have to stress you out?

Valentine's Day is traditionally one day in the year when couples typically celebrate their love for one another with flowers, cards, chocolates, cute little gifts, or even lavish ones.

When Valentine's Day rolls round on February 14th, not everyone is in a relationship. This does not imply that you must spend the entire day at home alone.

Nope! Ladies, we have the power… resourcefulness.

If you don't have a significant other on Valentine's Day, that doesn't mean you can't have a wonderful day. Or if your other half doesn't really want to celebrate you can still do something fun. I celebrate Valentine's and Galentine's day.

Spending Valentine's Day with a girl friend can turn out to be the best day ever!

You and your bestie can do a variety of fun things for laughs on Valentine's Day. There is no need to feel as if you’re left out of this day and need to hide away inside feeling sorry for yourself.

Here are a few ways that you can magically turn Valentine's Day into Galentine’s Day! And you don't have to wait to February 14th

MOVIES

If you enjoy watching movies, there are a variety of fun things you can do. But remember, because it’s Valentine’s Day, you are going to have to prepare in advance.

Movie theatre – this is a popular choice with couples on Valentine’s Day, so make sure you book in advance. And with Covid, seats might be limited so definitely book. Instead of a mushy romance, why not watch a horror or action movie for fun?

Outdoor movies – if you have a plain white wall outside or the space to hang a large white sheet, hire a projector, set all of that equipment up. Grab some blankets and pillows, and some snacks and enjoy a movie outdoors in the garden.

Binge Watch – if you subscribe to any streaming services, it's a great time to check out new releases and binge watch.

Virtual Screening– Thanks to the pandemic, there are lots of opportunities to enjoy a virtual screening for a new release. I've teamed up with Netflix films to offer you a seat to see “A Madea Homecoming” in the comfort of your home. Grab details here.

If it’s cold, make hot chocolate or chocolate bombs, or even some spicey Gluhwein. If it’s hot, think of milkshakes, Slushies and ice cream.

Go all out; you deserve to spoil yourself.

BOWLING

Bowling is not something that many people think about when brainstorming a list of fun activities to do.

But bowling is fun, even if you have never played it before.

Grab some friends, book a few lanes and have the greatest Valentine’s Day bowling showdown that your bowling alley has ever seen.

Go to the local bowling alley dressed up in reds and pinks.

You'll not only have a great time, but you'll also make the activity feel more unique.

EATING OUT

Eating a meal that someone else has made, always tastes better than if you make it yourself!

So, spoil yourselves and make arrangements to eat out.

Remember that you will need to make reservations well in advance as going out to dinner is a very popular idea on Valentine’s Day.

Look for a restaurant that neither of you have been to previously, try a new dish, visit a restaurant with an exquisite view, or even join a cooking class for an entire evening of fun.

Don't forget you can always order out to enjoy in!

VOLUNTEER

Homeless shelters, orphanages, animal shelters – the non-profit organizations are always needing an extra pair (or two) of hands.

Holidays can be difficult times at these organizations because their volunteers also want to enjoy the holidays and so they end up being short-staffed.

You and a friend can spend the evening dishing out dinner to those in need. It is highly likely that you will leave feeling as though you have made a difference in the lives of others which is a great way to spend Valentine’s Day.

CRAFTING

Book yourself an art class, a pottery lesson, or even a Paint & Sip class (external link to Paint and Sip).

A lot of women really enjoy taking a time out when they can sit together chatting and having fun, and not worry about cooking supper, cleaning the house, or any other monotonous household tasks.

Get some friends together and hire someone to come along and teach you a new craft in the comfort of your own home. Do you have a friend who make the most beautiful paper cards? Or one who paints like Van Gogh?

Create that vision or word board that you had been putting off. It is fun to create them with friends as you talk about your plans for the future. And since there are no rules and only minimal supplies needed, it is great stress free activity.

Supplies needed for the vision/word board:

  1. Old Magazines
  2. Canvas or Poster Board
  3. Glue
  4. Sealant
  5. Scissors

Having fun doesn’t always have to cost money. Be resourceful, get all the gals together, keep it casual and don’t forget to snap lots of pics!

GO FOR A WALK

It doesn’t matter if the sun is shining, or if the snow is falling, get outside and go for a walk.

If you don’t have a lot of time, or the sun sets early in your corner of the globe, you really don’t have to go far. Being outside in the fresh air and pushing your heart rate up is exhilarating and good for you.

For those gals that have more time on their hands, prepare backpacks and snack packs and head outside for a hike. Find a sheltered place to stop, lay out the blanket and enjoy an early picnic dinner.

GAME NIGHT

Having a girls’ games night can be a complete scream!

Grab your gal pals, bring drinks and snacks and plan for a night of fun. Order some surprise boardgames online, or have everyone bring a game from home, or even your favorite childhood game, and have a ton of fun.

Another option is to team up and turn your Valentine’s night into a competition. Screaming, laughing, and cheering each other on are all part of the game!

KARAOKE

If you have a karaoke club near you, dress up and go!

If you have your own equipment, set it up at home. Hire some flashing lights to create a party vibe, get the mic out and warm up those vocal chords.

You might be surprised who volunteers to stand up and sing.

STAYING IN

Finally, if you're searching for a fun way to spend Valentine's Day with your bestie, consider renting a bunch of movies and ordering pizza. This might be a fun way to spend time with your BFF and celebrate Galentine's Day together.

You won't have to worry about getting dressed up for a special occasion. Just unwind, be yourself, and have a wonderful evening with a friend. Make jokes, reminisce, and laugh a lot. You could even rent a few romantic movies, crack open a bottle of wine, and toast everyone who is out celebrating Valentine’s Day in a very likely, crowded venue.

If you're like me, you like to celebrate and combine as many occasions as possible. February is always a very busy month for me so this works perfectly.

Gift Exchange

February is the perfect month to host a favorite things celebration or just gift friends a few gifts.
