I was chatting with another agent in my office about our summer vacations and getting back on track. The discussion turned to the activities that my kids are involved in. Before I knew it, she recommend that I read “The Hurried Child”
I briefly read a few pages while visiting a local book store today and did not see the correlation. This book seems to talk about parents who rush their kids to grow up. I am in no way encouraging my kids to grow up fast. I want them to enjoy all that life has to offer them so they will have no regrets later. Enrolling my kids in Mandarin, Kumon, Ettiquette, Sporting teams, etc is about finding your passion.
My parents encouraged me to find and feed my passion so why would I not want to afford my kids the same opportunities. I guess the question should have been “how much is too much?”
How many activities are too much?
