Brittany Runs a Marathon is a Movie to Inspire You

Let me be upfront, I was not expecting much.  I will walk a lot, even jog on occasion, but the thought of a marathon is not appealing.  Nor a movie with the word “marathon” in it.  I was so wrong to judge this book by its cover.

Philly Movie Screening for Brittany Runs a Marathon at the Fitler Club.

Synopsis: Hilarious, outgoing and always up for a good time, New Yorker Brittany Forgler (Jillian Bell) is everybody’s best friend ― except maybe her own. At 27, her hard-partying ways, chronic underemployment and toxic relationships are catching up with her, but when she stops by a new doctor’s office to try to score some Adderall, she gets slapped with a prescription she never wanted: Get healthy. Too broke for a gym and too proud to ask for help, Brit is at a loss, until her seemingly together neighbor Catherine pushes her to lace up her Converse sneakers and run one sweaty block. The next day, she runs two. And soon, after finishing her first mile, she sets an almost unthinkable goal: running in the New York City Marathon

You are slowly pulled into a persons life that had suffered.  Suffered to the point that even when help was offered it was simply hard to accept. That feeling of rock bottom is something we all have in common.  We all reach it for different reasons, but the underwhelming feeling is the same, ending in a puddle of tears.

Brittany Runs a Marathon, based on a true story, was less about a marathon and more about taking responsibility for your life in an entertaining way.  It would be like putting every self-help book on the big screen and helping you realize that no matter what has happened to you, you have the power to change your life.  This change will not come without obstacles and sacrifices, but if you refuse to quit, commit to be honest with yourself, your life can change.

Who Should Watch It

Everyone should make time to see this movie.  If you have ever had a doubt about anything in your life, this movie is for you.  You will laugh through the pain, as Brittany draws you into her humor.  You will cry with pain, recognizing the feeling of hopelessness.  Then you will cry with joy realizing you can make a difference in your life right now.

Brittany thank you for sharing your story with us, as we complete little steps day by day.

The Amazon Studios original, Brittany Runs a Marathon hits select theaters on August 23rd and nationwide on August 30th.
