I’m excited to see this movie because this move seems to be so related about growing up in the projects or low income neighbors.

  2. Looks like a clean movie that values friendship and allows kids to dream beyond their current circumstances. Would love to see it with some young kids and get their take. Our kids don’t dream enough ….society doesn’t allow them

  7. As a kid growing up in the projects we did so many things that have come to light these days like selling juices, selling hotdogs, selling hoagies, selling candies and smoking Johnny sticks and I always recall saying I can’t wait till I get grown so that I can do anything I wanna do and become anybody I wanna become it took a long time for me to get there, but it’s happening and I’m so grateful. This was the lare 60’s early 70’s

In an interview with Dawn Staley at last year’s Roots Picnic, she extolled her love of growing up in the projects of North Philly. It appears this film is a slice of that same love for a coming-of-age experience in Chicago.

  12. This movie reminds me of my childhood being surrounded and uplifted by a strong family despite our circumstances of living in Camden, NJ. Seeing my mother work 2 jobs as a single parent for my sister and I ingrained a spirit of resiliency that pushed me to greater heights to dream bigger.

Overall, the influence of my childhood experiences created a mindset that empowered me to overcome obstacles and pursue my aspirations of being an entrepreneur with determination and optimism, much like the young boys featured! This movie is sure to touch the hearts of urban youth, like me, who sculpted concrete into a masterpiece.
