During Disney Dreamers Academy 2023, Richards-Ross shared that she is dedicated to encouraging more women to run and prioritize their health and wellness. Whether you're a seasoned marathoner or just starting out, she is the perfect motivation to help you reach the finish line with a smile on your face. In recent years, the running community has seen an undeniable growth within the Black community. Not only has running become a popular form of exercise and fitness, but it has also served as a platform for activism and community building. Many Black runners have found solace and strength through running.

Fun, Fitness, Disney

Imagine combining your love for Disney and fitness into one unforgettable experience. If you've ever been to either of the Walt Disney Parks, then you know that lots of walking is involved. During my last visit I logged 3 miles at Animal Kingdom (my favorite park) alone, so it's no surprise that these events sell out quickly. With events at both Disneyland and Walt Disney World, runDisney offers fitness enthusiasts the chance to participate in unforgettable races through the Disney theme parks. The best part? You get to run in costume and take in all the sights along the way. But runDisney is more than just a race; it's an experience. From character meet and greets to themed entertainment, runDisney truly incorporates fun and fitness into your Disney vacation

How to Get Started?

Richard-Ross offered advice to those with runDisney (me) on their bucket list- SHOW UP! Sounds easy from an Olympic runner but she stressed that is usually the hard part. Her mother joined her on the 5K and she called it a “life changing cathartic experience” It is not a race but whatever you want it to be. There is space for all levels and experience but first and foremost, it’s important to choose a race that is appropriate for your fitness level and experience. Don’t try to tackle a marathon right out of the gate if you’re new to running. Start with a shorter distance, like a 5K or 10K, and work your way up from there. Another key consideration when signing up for a race is timing. Make sure you give yourself enough time to properly train for the race, and don’t sign up for something that is scheduled too close to other events or commitments in your life. Finally, don’t forget to read all of the details and instructions carefully before you sign up, including any relevant policies or requirements, to ensure a smooth and enjoyable race day experience. With these tips in mind, you’ll be well on your way to completing your first race and reaching your running goals.

Prioritize Self-Care

Richards-Ross shared that despite her busy schedule she prirotizes self-care and family and this is why she is most excited about this ambassadorship. Walt Disney encourages family time and runDisney allow you to teach the importance of a healthy lifestyle to your children. It is an experience filled with magic and enchantment and the ideal way to mix fun and fitness while enjoying a Disney vacation.
