When most people think of summer camp, they think of spending time outdoors, hiking, swimming and enjoying the natural beauty of the wilderness. But for those lucky enough to attend Nissan Summer Camp at Saranac Lake Adirondacks NY, there's a whole new world of excitement awaiting.
That's because this camp is all about exploring the amazing power and versatility of the Nissan Pathfinder while driving through the woods on a nature trail, or taking on a challenging mountain, the Pathfinder was being put to the test. The two-day event was filled with fun, driving and lots of adventures like you would find at summer camp. And we were ready for the challenge!
Nissan delivered the 2022 Pathfinder to my driveway so I could have some fun with it prior to heading to summer camp. I immediately threw my family in the car and we headed for some adventures of our own, like to the grocery store and to lacrosse practice. I needed to make sure it would hold up to daily life and it did not disappoint. There was plenty of trunk space for the shopping cart that was filled to the brim with groceries and the lacrosse equipment had its own space.
I was excited to head to the mountains of Saranac Lake as I had been putting off a trip to the Adirondacks for far too long, and finally, thanks to Nissan I was breaking away from a busy routine and heading for an adventure. The all-new 2022 Pathfinder is perfect for families who are always on the go. It has rugged capability, ultimate family versatility and it's loaded with connectivity options so you can stay in touch no matter where life takes your adventures!
The ride upstate was smooth and relaxing in the SUV. The advanced safety features made me feel confident on the winding roads, and the fuel economy kept me moving without breaking the bank.
As we reached the mountains, I could feel the excitement in the air. We were finally going to get out and explore! The Pathfinder's versatile seating system allowed us to configure the interior to our needs. The views were breathtaking as we drove along the lakes and peaks, and it was a reminder of the importance of stopping to smell the roses. The final destination was the Saranac Waterfront Lodge.
Is the 2022 Nissan Pathfinder bigger?
The answer is yes, the new Pathfinder is both longer and wider than the outgoing model, and it rides on a wheelbase that's been stretched by nearly four inches. That means there's more room inside for passengers and their gear, and Nissan says the third row of seats is now large enough to accommodate adults. As before, the Pathfinder is available in either front- or all-wheel drive, but every model now comes standard with Nissan's ProPilot Assist semi-autonomous driving system.
Is the Nissan Pathfinder good on gas?
We put the Nissan Pathfinder to the test on our two-day camping trip in the Saranac Lake Adirondacks. The Pathfinder was up for any challenge we threw its way, whether it was climbing mountains or driving through rivers. We were also pleasantly surprised by how good its gas mileage was – we didn't have to fill up once during our entire trip!
Nissan has also made a number of changes under the hood. The old V-six engine has been replaced by a new turbocharged four-cylinder that makes 284 horsepower and 269 lb-ft of torque. That's a significant increase over the previous model, and it adds to better fuel economy.
Technology everyone will love
There’s a lot of technology on the new Pathfinder. I liked the big screens, the multiple USB ports (one for every passenger!) and even a household plug.
The all-new Nissan Pathfinder is packed with an advanced suite of driver-assist features to help keep you safe on the road. standard ProPILOT Assist semi-autonomous system can brake, accelerate and even steer for you in heavy traffic or on long road trips. If you're looking for a vehicle that can help take some of the stress out of driving, the Pathfinder is a great option.
In addition to ProPILOT Assist, the Pathfinder comes standard with Nissan Safety Shield 360. This suite of advanced safety and driver-assist features includes automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, blind spot warning, rear cross traffic alert and more. With so many safety features, you can feel confident taking on whatever the road throws your way.
Additionally, at the push of the headset button on your NissanConnect display or in your
NissanConnect Services app, Nissan Concierge can provide you with live, 24-hour access to
an entire professionally-trained concierge team that's always on-hand to help you with a
broad range of things – from booking theater tickets to making dinner reservations. This service was a godsend to me as I pushed the limits while driving home and needed it to help me find a gas station that was open and a restroom. The concierge stayed on the phone with me and called ahead to a few places.

What I loved about the 2022 Nissan Pathfinder
The all-new 2022 Pathfinder is for hard-working, adventurous parents who need an SUV with rugged capability, ultimate family versatility and the latest in connectivity. It was definitely designed with the family in mind. It will take on any challenge, yet still look stylish enough for you or the picky teenagers.
The makeover gives this vehicle an updated feel while also conveying its power.
This SUV could accommodate everyone in my family plus 2 grandparents. There are tons of amenities and customization options to ensure that you're well-orted on any journey! With two front seats or seven (captain chairs) passengers in tow; drivers can enjoy how seamlessly integrated the instrument panel is with informative display screens – one less thing we needed worry about while driving the winding roads to Saranac Lake.
The interior design speaks volumes too: ample space for comfortably transporting whoever's along as far away from home (or anywhere else) without feeling cramped thanks largely due its wide variety furnishings like captain chairs–perfect if there'd be room elsewhere. The ability to remove the center console to fit long cargo and width without having to shift it sideways.
Climbing in the backseat could not be easier with the ease of a button to move the seats forward. And the legroom in the third room has been expanded.
Lots of hidden storage options for your purse, shoes, or lacrosse balls.
Larger tires that can handle off-roading if needed. The 4WD (all-wheel drive) experience is enjoyable in any situation with the help of ‘Terrain' mode. One can choose between sand, mud or snow for more challenging terrain. It is responsive and provides nice power when needed!
The vehicle also offers 0 – 60 mph timing under 7 seconds which makes this car perfect if you want something fast yet efficient at lower speeds
About Saranac Lake
Saranac Lake is a small town located in the heart of the Adirondack Mountains. It's best known for its natural beauty and abundance of outdoor activities. From hiking and biking trails to kayaking and fishing, there's something for everyone here.
With only hours to explore the area, I managed to fit in a lot of fun activities. My friend, Scherrie and I jumped in a boat with Steve from Nissan and took a ride on the lake. These two were a little more adventurous and jumped in but I decided that someone needed to “protect the boat”.
The views were absolutely breathtaking and it was such a peaceful experience being surrounded by nature. We also went kayaking before jumping on the boat again to go fishing with some friends.
We called the Saranac Waterfront Lodge home and it is the perfect place to stay if you're looking for a relaxing and scenic stay. The lodge is located on a beautiful stretch of the Saranac river, and offers stunning views of the surrounding mountains. The lodge is also just a short walk from the town of Saranac, which offers a variety of restaurants and shops.
