We have read the book multiple times, watched the DVD so many times that my daughter could recite it in her sleep, witnessed it on Broadway and now we can add the dynamic performance of Matilda at the Walnut Street Theatre to the list.
If you haven't guessed by now, we are big Roald Dahl fans. He uses characters in ways that excite the imagination so we always jump at the opportunity to see it unfold. This musical performance did not disappoint as we were pulled in from the very beginning.
The 1988 children's novel recently celebrated it's 30th birthday and continues to receive critical acclaim. Directed by Linda Goodrich, Matilda The Musical offers humorous dialogue, finger snapping music and a mix of moments that make you laugh and cry. The performance drives home the message that with determination and perseverance anything is possible.
The costumes and the set design truly bring the book to life. Matilda, played by`Jemma Bleu Greenbaum (co-shared with Ellie Biron) is a book worm so a set filled with images of books and a sense of adventure was the perfect back drop.
This the perfect show people of all ages. Matilda the Musical runs until January 6 at the Walnut Street Theatre located at 825 Walnut Street, Philadelphia, PA 19107. Prices vary by performance and range from $25 to $97 with premium tickets available for $175 that includes a tax deductible donation.
