If you are looking for a great way to enhance an east coast vacation with non stop activities then New York City is the place. It's the city that never sleeps so there is something for everyone to enjoy. My daughter could not decide what she wanted to do for her birthday so I suggested New York City and off we went.
Where to Stay:
With so many places, price points and locations to choose from it can be overwhelming to decide. Always keep your budget in mind then decide what you must have. We have fallen in love with the Garden Suites, Affinia Hotel in the upper east side. The price was right and it had all the things that I needed. I love that I can hop on a train and get to the middle of the action or walk around the corner and feed my retail habit. The rooms are spacious and the kitchen means that we can sleep in and make breakfast if we choose.
What to Do:
I considered posting a top 10 list but how could I narrow it down to just ten when we tend to do something different with each visit. Hoping on the TopView double-decker sightseeing bus was a great idea as it allowed us to see much more the city and take it all in. The double-decker bus tour travels through the city and allows you to hop off and on at various locations. The There is even a water-boat portion to see Ellis Island and Liberty Island.
Time Square is an attraction all its own with bright lights, video billboards and great people watching. No visit is complete without sitting on the steps watching the big screen while eating M&Ms.
If you want to get some physical activity, consider bike riding through central park. TopView offers this with ticket purchase but we took advantage of it at our hotel. Another perk of staying at the Garden Suites Affinia Hotel. We happened upon the Museum Mile and had a blast but luckily museums are all over and on certain days they are free to enter or you pay what you can.
There are very few places that I believe has the best shopping in the world and New York City is one of them. Even if you don't want to hit the big box franchise stores, you can browse the street vendors for some fun items.
What to Eat:
My child is a macaroni and cheese connoisseur so I am always leery of her ordering it when out. Juniors, Time Square location, is our go to place but I discovered that Jackson Hole was across from the hotel and delivers! The upper east side diner also saw us a few times but Sprinkles cupcakes saw us almost daily. There is no shame in eating a cupcake daily when in New York City. Did I mention that Sprinkles never closes! The plan was to just walk it off and then Serendipity had an opening. You could literally eat something new and exciting everyday, so be open to trying.
Now that I've given you a starting point, get started planning a great trip to New York City.
