The musical Annie kicked off the Kimmel Cultural Campus’ 2022-2023 Broadway Series season with a bang last night! The talented cast, including Ellie Pulsifer as ANNIE and Stefanie Londino as Miss Hannigan, brought the story of hope, determination, and optimism to life.
The music and story of ANNIE, which has been enjoyed for generations after generations, was a perfect fit for the Kimmel Cultural Campus. The production was directed by Jenn Thompson and featured the iconic book and score, written by Tony Award®—winners Thomas Meehan, Charles Strouse and Martin Charnin.
The cast of Annie is absolutely incredible, and the musical is sure to leave you feeling inspired. From the homeless, to the government officials, to the radio personalities, to Warbucks staff, you will laugh and cheer. The choreography was energetic and fun. The costumes had me in awe especially the dresses worn by Grace Farrell (Julia Nicole Hunter.) Be prepared to fall in love with all of the orphans as they each add their own spin to the role. Molly (Bronte Harrison) definitely pulls at your heart strings and Sandy (Addison) will make you want to adopt them all.
Large portions of the script remain unchanged from the original libretto, with only a few updates. it's a great way for kids to learn about the Great Depression and, in a later scene, the New Deal.
Philly area fans were happy to see ensemble member, Leeanna Rubin, Penn Valley native and Merion Grace graduate as part of the cast.
Make sure to buy your tickets today and experience this heartwarming show firsthand!
